Now, this rule was revised in 2006 to allow for the use of distance-measuring devices. Later in 2016, the rules were revised again to allow of equipment that could have specialized features as long as they were turned off and not accessed during gameplay. And finally, there is a “local rule” that says that the course/tournament itself can allow/disallow devices as desired.

So, what is not allowed as defined by the USGA?

Your device cannot measure and/or gauge distances for slope, weather conditions and/or wind speeds, contact a coach during gameplay, provide swing analysis information, or make any type of club suggestions.
